A Message from the Alumni Affairs Manager

Dear Graduate

The Alumni Affairs Team – based within Corporate Relations on the Westville campus - takes this opportunity in welcoming you to a special grouping within the University called Convocation.

Convocation, which comprises generations of University graduates (alumni), plays an integral part in the affairs and governance of the University. As a statutory body of the University, you elect your Convocation Executive Committee called Convex, and three representatives to the University Council. Your Convocation President joins the Chancellor, the Chair of Council, the Vice-Chancellor and senior management as one of the senior office-bearers of the University. The role of Convocation is to highlight and represent the interests of graduates and to marry them with the progressive developmental goals of the University.

Convex together with the Alumni Affairs Team are responsible for establishing and developing mutually beneficial relationships between the University and its 135 000 plus graduates (both locally and internationally). A number of networking opportunities and alumni get-togethers (including lunches, dinners, workshops, reunions and outings) are co-ordinated by Alumni Affairs each year and we encourage all graduates to participate in these events. In addition, graduates receive a bi-annual alumnus publication (UKZNTOUCH) and a bi-monthly online newsletter.

In order for us to maintain regular contact with you, it would be appreciated if you would please keep the Alumni Affairs Office informed of any change to your address and contact details (including your email address) – this is very important. You can update your contact details on-line by accessing our interactive website or through the following contact options: Alumni Affairs Office, UKZN, Westville Campus, Private Bag X54001, Durban, 4000. Tel: 031-260 2947/2016; Fax: 031-260 2236/3265 and e-mail:

With best wishes,

Finn Christensen
